How many people can the sauna fit?
- The Martinborough sauna can accommodate up to 8 people, 10 for private group sessions.

What do I need to bring?
- 2 towels- one to sit on.
- Water and a drinking bottle
- There is space to store your keys
Do I need to book?
Yes, bookings are essential. You can book online or contact us through the contact
page.
What is sauna etiquette?
- Take a shower before entering the sauna.
- Always sit on a towel.
- Respect the tranquility of others by either enjoying the silence or speaking in hushed tones to maintain a peaceful environment.
- In self-guided sessions, silence is expected, but quiet conversation is allowed.
Where can I get changed?
- To keep things simple, please arrive with your togs on underneath. There is no space to change on site.
- Space is limited, so bring only the essentials and leave the rest in your car or at home.
Should I buy a sauna hat?
Sauna hats help keep your head cooler, allowing you to stay in the sauna longer and get through the rounds more comfortably.
Should I come early?
- 5-10 minutes early is ideal for signing in and preparing for your session
- Everyone must take a quick shower before entering the sauna.
Can I go naked?
In group sessions, swimwear or a towel is required. No nudity is permitted.
Is there a minimum age?
- Anyone under 14 years old must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
Can I leave during a session?
- You can always leave when you need.
- In facilitated sessions, you can leave during the 15-minute rounds if needed.
- In open sessions, please ask others before adding more water.
What can I expect from start to finish?
- Arrive and sign in
- Take a shower.
- Enjoy 15 minutes in the sauna.
- Take a break.
- Repeat for 2 more rounds (3 rounds total).
Can I take photos?
- You are welcome to take photos before or after your session.
- No photos are allowed during sauna sessions to respect the privacy of others.
- Phones and saunas don’t mix.
Can I change my session time?
- No refund for cancellations less than 24 hours before your session.
Terms and Conditions
1. Arrival Time:
- New clients: Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled session time.
- Existing clients: Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your scheduled session time.
We cannot extend session times or bookings for late arrivals. Sessions will begin on time. Please factor in time for parking.
2. Assumption of Risk:
The use of the sauna is at your own risk. We disclaim any liability for injuries sustained during use of the sauna or facilities. It is your responsibility to ensure you can withstand exposure to hot temperatures. If you choose to use the plunge pool, you do so at your own risk.
3. Consultation Prior to Use:
If you have any medical conditions or concerns, consult your GP before making a booking. The sauna should not be used if you suffer from high or low blood pressure, heart or circulatory disorders, epilepsy, diabetes, are pregnant, or are prone to dizziness or fainting. By confirming your booking, you confirm you are not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
4. Essential Oils Usage:
Essential oils are used during our guided sauna sessions. If you have allergies to oils or scents, please inform the facilitator beforehand. Löyly is not responsible for allergic reactions. Personal use of essential oils is not allowed.
5. Shaving and Lotions/Creams:
Shaving, lotions, or creams are not permitted in the sauna.
6. Jewelry:
Remove any hanging jewelry before entering the sauna to avoid burns.
7. Supervision Requirement:
Individuals under 14 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult while using the sauna.
8. Safety Precautions:
Be cautious when entering and exiting the sauna as water may create slippery conditions. Löyly is not responsible for injuries due to slips or falls. Please stay aware of your surroundings.
9. Sauna Heater:
Avoid direct contact with the sauna heater.
10. Alcohol and Drug Policy:
Alcohol and drugs are not permitted on the premises. We advise against consuming alcohol before using the sauna. Löyly reserves the right to refuse admission to intoxicated individuals. Smoking or vaping is not allowed inside or on the premises.
11. Health Restrictions:
You must not use the sauna if you suffer from high or low blood pressure, heart or circulatory disorders, epilepsy, diabetes, are pregnant, or are prone to dizziness or fainting.
12. Accidental and Personal Injuries:
Personal injuries are covered by the Accident Compensation Act 2001 in New Zealand. Users must comply with all health and safety directives from Löyly and the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. Any accidents or near misses must be reported immediately.
13. Admission Rights:
Löyly operators reserve the right to refuse admission for any reason that could pose a health or safety risk. No refunds will be issued for individuals refused admission.
14. Damage or Loss of Property:
Löyly is not responsible for any damage or loss of property brought onto the premises. Property is stored at your own risk.
15. Sauna Usage:
For safety and well-being, please do not stay in the sauna for longer than 15 minutes per session. Prolonged exposure can cause dehydration and overheating. We recommend 10-15 minute sessions.
16. Cold Plunge:
If you’re new to the sauna or cold plunge, start slow with the cold water immersion as it may cause dizziness.
Sauna Etiquette:
- Sit on a towel at all times
- Swimwear must be worn; nudity is not permitted
- Limit sauna sessions to no more than 15 minutes, (recommended: 5-15 minutes).
- Gently pour water onto the sauna stove – drizzle
- Use only the provided ‘sauna water’ on hot stones
- Arrive with your togs on ready to go.
Cancellations and Moving Bookings:
- Group sessions: No refunds for cancellations less than 48 hours before the session. You can cancel up to 24 hours before for a session credit.
- Private sessions: No refunds for cancellations less than 72 hours before the session. You can cancel up to 48 hours before for a credit on your account.
Group Bookings:
If you are booking for a group, you are responsible for ensuring all members are aware of the terms and conditions and practice safe sauna use. Please forward the booking confirmation email to all group members.
Right to Refuse:
Löyly reserves the right to refuse entry, cut short, or cancel sessions for any reason deemed a health or safety risk, concerns about risky behavior, or if rules are not followed. Refunds will not be given for refused admission.
Waiver:
I fully acknowledge and accept the terms and conditions outlined above. I agree to act responsibly and ensure the safety of myself and others while using the sauna. I will inform all members of my group about these terms and conditions. I understand that participation in the sauna is voluntary, comes with inherent risks, and I can discontinue participation at any time for any reason.
